Day 2 of competitions for our young champs turned out to be even better than expected. Knowing very well they were tired from their Sprint Triathlon race the day before, the squad went on the starting line determined to give it all they had, in an Aquathlon full of high level athletes, due to the fact that this race was part of the Andalucian Aquathlon Championship circuit. Sean fought his way with the seniors in the his race, finishing 23rd overall (out of 126) and 3rd in his age group ! Kai and Ryan once again showed they mean business and pulled out a huge performance. 5th and 6th respectively after the first run, showed their open water swimming skills by overtaking opponents and approach the last run 2nd and 5th overall. Kai kept his position until the finishing line, while Ryan had a photo finish for 3/4th place, finishing 4th overall. Impressive performances, which once again, did not go unnoticed by the various spanish officials and clubs there, considering that the starting line included the best of what south of spain can offer, in their respective age groups! The Malta Triathlon Federation cannot be prouder of you guys ! BeActive - SportMalta Kumitat Olimpiku Malti - Maltese Olympic Committee - ... See MoreSee Less

STATEMENT Malta Triathlon Federation were given the opportunity to submit athletes to represent Malta at the Commonwealth games given that they have the required MQS provided by the MOC. The MQS can be acquired in an official race endorsed by the ETU ,ITU or the Federation . The athletes were chosen from their performance from the 2021 events/ local races . Opportunities were offered to all athletes last year as long as they qualified (according to the regulations and TOTY points set last year) , paid their membership fees and abided by the MTF code of conduct and conditions placed by the MTF . In November there was a list of 7 athletes provided by the MTF which was taken down to 3 in January after various meetings and discussions with the MOC . Due to circumstances of the lack of opportunities to qualify in the races the MTF approached the MOC to ask to have a specific event for these athletes (no other athletes at this point could participate who were not on the list) and therefore it was an event for those athletes alone. The timings had to submitted by the 10th June 2022. This event was a controlled qualifier which is also applied by other international Federations and in other small countries like Gibraltar . In the case of Gibraltar the Swim is done on its own and on the same day as the bike and run. The swim to bike transition in this case is not taken into consideration but more importantly the technique , time and the distance and the overall performance. This system has been in place for years . The MTF planned to give this opportunity to the athletes to do this event on Friday 10th June which was the last day to hand in the timings. The event was then moved forward to Thursday 9th June due to the Force 7 winds predicted for Friday. The event was a 750 m swim , 20 Km bike route and 5 km run with a difference to the above that it will be all done consecutively (as in an official race including all transitions) and early in the morning for safety reasons of less traffic. The athletes were allowed to draft but the safety element was imperative to the MTF and the MOC . The MTF were offered assistance by the BSJ club who kindly provided also the timing equipment and Xterra Malta who kindly provided equipment and assistance too. At the event there was also the MOC present as well at the MTF. The MTF would like to make it clear that it is just the MQS to then race internationally and the performance and the time in the race is of course what counts. The results of the above event are still to be analyzed and discussed before any decisions will be taken by the MTF and then by the MOC.The MTF would like to thank the MOC for the opportunity for Triathletes to represent Malta. ...
